Hello elmatador,
Between US and EU and these guys trying to shoot themselves on the foot?
Then these developing countries are left behind and complain!
Just out of curiosity, exactly what contributions towards the research and the ultimate development of the Internet were made by China, Brazil, India and South Africa (you may lump sum their collective contributions if you think the resultant figure might somehow be more impressive)? Did they ever hear of DARPA?
I must have somehow overlooked their (China, Brazil, et al) funding contributions during those critical early years of research. Perhaps they donated academic knowledge instead? No, it would appear they all jumped on the bandwagon only at the point in time that someone else (largely the USA, with some contributions from various countries within the old European Union) paid for the research and development, and subsequently made the Internet commercially viable. Only then did the Johnny-come-latelys assert and demand American-style "rights", the same class of "rights" that these same countries have long denied their own citizens.
F_ck 'em, I say... No pay, no play... If these countries want to start sharing in the benefits of R&D, then let them start sharing in the costs of R&D as well. Seems to me that the UN is weak, largely unfunded except for monies received from the USA and some European/Asian interests, and quite frankly, we (current Internet users) don't really need their interference and political games interposed on the development of the Internet.
