Interesting - good post. I have to disagree about the intelligence end. As you've posted, it's easier than I thought to hijack. Whether it's native IQ or an IQ that is reduced by sheer hatred, the poster and his other previous incarnations come across as one-dimensional haters. The constant repetitive hate posts of each poster, usually off topic to the current discussion, is a product of a mental illness and a deep ingrained hatred, most likely because of the need to blame someone else for his own failings. Whatever the reason, it comes off as "moronic." I'm not necessarily disagreeing. It may be a bright person so screwed up that he comes across as what he posts. I know I've personally had "banter" with at least 3 whose writing style and substance (or lack thereof) were almost identical. 2 of them - when suspended from SI put similar stuff in their profile. I agree with you totally that SI Bob seems to want to make SI into the quality board. That way, someone is willing to pay up over Yahoo for real stock discussion. If someone sees a bunch of hatred, racially or religious, or complete anti-American diatribe, then it will turn off a certain percentage of stock people. I agree it can't be totally eliminated. However, I'd implement your suggestion about old accounts and also limit or eliminate the real cesspools in the coffee shop. Actually, I'd limit it perhaps to one thread - e.g. the George Bush thread and let everything go on that one. That thread has such volume and lack of quality that I no longer bother to even read the index. You have a person whose beliefs mirror Hitler starting topics and banning people who disagree. I don't think I'd want that type of image if I were the owner. Just my opinion (before Doug comes over and gives a page of doggerel.)
