quite an accomplishment, but not a good position to be in.
I agree it's not a good position, but when the world media reports on you like you enjoy clubbing Arabs like baby seals, it's not easy to avoid - except by national suicide, which I think is the only course that would please the world media. They would express regret afterwards, of course. How many people in Europe today even know that Syria and Egypt were intent on destroying Israel in 1967 and 1973? Or that these wars even happened? Just as you didn't know that Israel has a million Arab citizens.
Time for new leadership in Israel and new policy directions, before things get even worse.
The other crowd was in already and tried their way, that's how we got into this mess, remember? Making peace is very very dangerous - especially if the other guy doesn't actually want peace. The talks didn't fall apart on giving back the West Bank and Gaza, they fell apart on the "right of return" of millions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation "refugees" to Israel. Not to Palestine, but to Israel.
Israel is arguably the most hated country in the world today
No, that would be America. You need a good dose of fear to inspire real hatred, and many people fear America. Few really fear Israel, it's just such a convenient scapegoat. |
