Mephisto,

Do you think that making the News Hour so boring is part of a vast right wing conspiracy to make the American people ignorant of political facts and apathetic?

There's no doubt that Jim Lehrer is one of the most lame presenters on TV. And his staff are abysmal, with the exception of Paul Solomon who manages to make his business/economic beat interesting if not particularly informative about the most important issues of the day.

OTOH, here's a scary thought. Last month a survey was done on the misperceptions of the American public. The news is shocking and disappointing.

Frequency of Misperceptions of Americans on three items:

1) Evidence of al-Qaeda Links, 2) WMD Found,
3) World Public Opinion Favorable

Respondents with one or more misperceptions:

Fox 80%
CBS 71%
ABC 61%
NBC 55%
CNN 55%
Print Media 47%
PBS-NPR 23%

It is scary to think about how ill-informed Americans are. And how hard the Bush Administration and the corporate media whores work to keep it that way.
