Jindal lost.

Attack ads to which he didn't respond in kind made the difference. Blanco was able to close the gap at the last minute by playing dirty, tactics which both forswore at the beginning of the campaign. There was also backlash from Dems in Orleans Parish. They gave gave Blanco a huge lead there despite Mayor Nagin's endorsement of Jindal.

I'm saddened by this. Bobby ran a principled campaign and lost. Blanco did so too at first. When she saw that she was getting killed, she resorted to the tried and true. And effective.

Jindal's political future is still bright. If rumors about Sen. Breaux's retirement are true, he will definitely be a contender in the race to replace him.
