Are You Sick Of The Democrat Mantras...

(courtesy of Joan Salvato)

11.13.2003 - Are you sick of the Democrat mantras: "Worst
labor market since Herbert Hoover", "Jobless Recovery",
"Record loss in jobs since FDR"?

Here's a reality check:

The unemployment rate right now is 6%. This is lower than the average for:

* Bill Clinton's first three years - 6.23%
* George H.W. Bush's single term - 6.28%
* Ronald Reagan's 2nd term - 6.48%
* Jimmy Carter's single term - 6.56%
* Ford/Nixon - 6.64%
* Reagan's 1st term - 8.58%

The current rate of unemployment is, in fact, lower than the average rate of unemployment for the past 30 years.

You be the judge. Maybe American households have been pretending to be employed, lying to the government when it conducts it’s household survey. Perhaps people are shuffling into seminars on how to start a small business because it’s cheaper than a movie. It may be that a record number of citizens have filed to create new sole proprietorships with the government because they like paperwork. Maybe payroll preparation companies have banner years when payroll declines. Perhaps this year the average worker has increased productivity at triple the average post-war rate. On the other hand, maybe the economy is doing the same thing that it’s done after every other recession for the past 30 years, creating jobs faster than the bureaucrats can count them. In other words, perhaps there really is a Bush Boom.
