"...China's demand for raw materials and that we do not have control over."

Should point out that China's demand for raw materials will fall rather sharply if US consumer demand for China finished goods drops. We saw a short-term blowoff of US consumer demand while we were spending the refi money last summer, but what now?

A different topic, but somewhat related: Is China demand for raw material, agricultural commodities, etc., in excess of actual current need? It should never be forgotten that China wants Taiwan brought back into the fold and may be looking for leverage to keep the US from helping them resist, as well as some insurance against starvation in case the leverage doesn't work.

Hu to Bush: "Either butt out or see several hundred billion in US Treasuries dumped onto the market all at once."

Have the Chinese been collecting the rope to tie our hands with in the guise of a pegged currency supported by Treasury purchases?
