i heard some cigarette proponents tried to sell the merits of tobacco to some Eastern European country or countries based on the idea that lowered average life expectancy would reduce pension costs and be beneficial to state budgets. with cigarettes largely a No-No in America, maybe our own government likes to encourage obesity for the same reason. with obesity now a national epidemic, the government seems to be either incompetent in recognizing the problem, or complicit in its development.
