The chemical name is niacin.

I found the prospectus on the SEC's web page edgar.sec.gov

Niaspan is just fancy niacin. The value of this drug lies in its promised lack of side effects. Kos is downplaying the incidence of side effects. We'll have to scrutinize published data about the true incidence of side effects. Discontinuation rates can be very misleading. People whose entire bodies are one large atherosclerotic plaque will put up with a lot of side effects before quitting a drug which they believe to be their only chance at survival.
