The record of democrats championing civil rights is well known and well documented. If you need to find facts, you can look them up yourself. I see the "facts" that you presented. You wasted your time and mine. You can post all you want, but it does not change that fact that the democrats are the party of the people for the people and by the people.

As for the general population of republicans I stand by my own observations over many years that republicans are racists. I don't need the examples of the leadership in your party such as Lott or Helms to prove my point. I'm talking about my daily experiences with conservative bigots and racists. I've traveled extensively in this country, south, north, east and west and through the heartland. I've been to every state in the union. I know where the center of gravity of racism lies, and it's firmly in the republican conservative hearts. I don't need to post a link to some poll. This is my experience in the world. And most people know it to be true. Some republicans will go to great lengths to try and say that it is not so. All you have to do is read the posts on this thread by your conservative friends. The hatred of muslims and arabs alone tells you that people are not right thinking. What I have seen my entire life is hatred and racism from the conservative right, whether it be against blacks, latinos, asians and lately right here on SI, people of arab decent.

Go ahead and deny it for yourself. But my experience tells me that you are in the minority of your party.
