US Troops Capture Suspected Iraqi Guerrilla Leader
Mon Nov 17, 2:18 AM ET Add World - Reuters to My Yahoo!

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers have captured a former Iraqi special forces officer and militia leader suspected of staging attacks on American troops in the "Sunni triangle" region around Baghdad, the U.S. Army said on Monday.

An army statement said Kathim Mohammad Faris, described as "a former Iraqi Special Forces officer and a Fedayeen leader who is believed to be responsible for improvised explosive device attacks and ambushes on coalition forces," was captured in the town of Habbaniya on Saturday.

It said soldiers also seized two machineguns, six AK-47 assault rifles, assorted rifles, flares, a bayonet, multiple fake identification cards, a computer, a fax machine, chemical protective masks and two new cars.

The Army said Faris was closely linked to Khamis Sirhan al-Muhammad, number 54 on a U.S. list of the 55 most-wanted Iraqi fugitives. Forty of the people on the list have already been killed or captured
