I think there are limits to that philosophy. I go to a website that is devoted to military information, and the one thing that remains clear is that "boots on the ground" are still what get the job done. All the other stuff is ancillary to help keep the "boots" from being targets. Despite that, they are, and always will be, vulnerable. The US has simply created a situation where we have limited that vulnerability.

Unfortunately, dictators never get the message. After the devastating loss in Gulf War I, Saddam's reply to his ministers, when the US chose not to march on Baghdad, was "We won."
The logic of that statement is incomprehensible unless you understand the logic of a dictator. The only thing that mattered was surviving.
