Gottfried, IMHO, any inflation index that incorporates essentials should include at least one or two things that provide pleasure. Dogs and sailboats could certainly be considered essential in that regard. I can't imagine what life would be like without my 3 cocker spaniels and 1 cat. For me, they give meaning to the word "essential". I don't have a sailboat, but I do have a canoe. Ice
