UW, it really does seem odd to me to have a Religious Crusader running major military forces in the 21st century. Comparing his supernatural idol to the bad guys' supernatural idol seems quite loopy to me, and when people have completely wacky ideas in one area, I doubt that their other ideas are much use either.
But leaving aside motivation, reasoning, ability or whatever inputs are involved, the outputs have been a failure. No Osama, no Omar and no Saddam so far. Even if he is new to the job, it's about time they found him. As I mentioned in a previous post, it's a team effort. He obviously isn't going to find them on his own. But praying for guidance isn't likely to provide an address; I don't think even Boykin's Superior Idol is into providing temporal benefits in exchange for suitable kissing up.
Mostly, in theological circles, temporal life is about free will and self-determination, not divine intervention, which is a Santa Claus approach to religion = "If I pray once a day Santa, can I please have a great big Osama doll for Christmas and maybe a new TV and $10,000 too? I promise to be a good boy next year and pray flat out every day if you put those under the Xmas tree."
