IJ must be pleased that he was wrong!

You can nail IJ for a lot of things....but the accuracy of his prediction about W-CDMA's rollout isnt one of them. The quote that Eric showed was from February 2001. I can guarantee that he ended up being more right than any of the other major wireless CEO's were predicting at the time (what was Jorma predicting?).

Also, there are a couple of different versions of that story. In some, he says 2004/2005. I believe that the words "commercial quantities" of W-CDMA equipment might also have been added as a qualifier when follow up questions were later asked. In any case, in the months after that original statment, there are numerous conferences/interviews where IJ is directly quoted as saying "commericial quantities in 2004/2005".

One of the people that turned out to be wrong was me. I was predicting that we would see small quantities in '02, with some real launches by the 4th quarter of '03. Oops...should have listened to IJ.
