Hi all,
New issue. Using Windows XP Pro.
I just installed a DVD Burner for backup and for saving home movies. However, an annoying problem has shown itself.
When I first started backing up, everything went very well and I was achieving nominal write rates. However, after a few discs were written, it began to take longer. I watched and the "read buffer" was no longer running completely full, sometimes dropping all the way to zero, thus slowing the write process by starving the burner and (in one case) causing a burn error and a wasted disk and time.
Using Task Manager, it became obvious what had happened. Windows XP, in it's infinite wisdom, had decided to move the read ahead buffer into virtual memory, thereby increasing the time required to access the data for the DVD Writer rather than shortening it!
Does anyone know how to stop this from occurring?
A work around appears to be: kill the Writer software and restart...but a few disks into the process and it slows down again, with Memory use lowered and Virtual Memory size up...
There has to be a way to make Windows realize it's a buffer area where speed of access is it's primary purpose...
