In that case, I am more inclined to think that inflation has been here all along. But from a different angle. If prices stay the same and wages go down, it has the same overall effect. Certainly wages have gone down for those who are unemployed, but wages have certainly gone down for many who enjoyed the boom years in tech. Someone at Cisco in 1999 would be making a lot more than someone at Cisco today, even if they had the exact same wage. (through options and bonuses (though I understand the most recent bonus round was relatively generous)).

As far as the translation lag, I am in the school that the market is forward looking by 6 to 12 months.
