Peter - re:coal, late answer. Haven't much to say about coal but macro-economics.

While the China bubble inflates, there will be a need for metallurgical coal China does not has (explored?) yet.

Inflating or not, on a second level and longer term (2025 Hubbert peak) one could expect more explorations and production, also development of coal based chemical industry.

I have no figures as there has been few explorations in the last years and the available numbers are even more flawed (if possible) than oil reserves numbers. You only have two schools currently, the one saying all is known, the other that a global scale exploration of the scale of oil exploration hasn't happened yet.

On the Safehaven forum, some posters did start a discussion on coal, haven't had the opportunity to analyze their data.

BHP shares are on a ramp (err... for me 30% price increase for a global mining conglomerate is huge), sometin' must be brewin'
