Well, they may "need" the US consumer, but they ain't going to get them. The US consumer has shot the last wad, is kaput, is history. So it's not really about wants, needs, is more about reality, and the choices are limited.

Well if US consumers are kaput that is a deflationary thing. Overcapacity, falling prices on finished goods cause no one is buying and you expect interst rates hikes in that environment?

Sorry.....

BTW I do expect long term interest rates to rise because of credit risk.
