I don't know that RAMBUS has such a lock on the future.
SLDRAM (formerly known as Synclink) is being developed as an open standard (IEEE) that I hear is supposed to offer DRAM bandwidth comparable to RAMBUS. Since RAMBUS is a licensed proprietary technology, it would seem that systems built around RAMBUS would be more expensive than systems built around SLDRAM. Anyway, check out www.sldram.com for more info.

I am not familiar with either SLDRAM or RAMBUS, and I was wondering if anyone on this thread can shed some light on these two protocols and if they are indeed comparable in performance.
