Hello:

Sorry, another day another problem.

0, I installed a new 40GB Maxtor hard drive on my system around two months ago.

1, I have 4 partitions on the drive. C has windows, D: used to have programs, my downloads and my docs. E and F have audio files.

2, I am running Win98. (XP and a new PC (with all the toppings, dvd r/w....) are in the budget for 2004. I have inherited the PC from my son)

3, Two days ago, while I was downloading, The PC showed the blue screen of death, "Disk Write Error. Unable to write to disk in drive D: Data or file may be lost. Press any key..."

4, I thought the disk may be full, it was not. I ran virus check and Disk doctor (NSW 2003), did the scandisk (including surface test). No problem was reported on drive d using nav2003. No effect, the problem repeated on downloading. I transferred everything out of D and reformatted it. No effect. Windows explorer shows that d has nothing in it. I can reproduce the problem by trasferring some files from e to d. Writing to c, e, and f and g (the cd r/w) works fine.
5, I think it is time for me to throw in the towel and ask for help.

H E L P

TIA.

Regards,

Satish
