Agreed.

That's an incredible lead for a candidate who still hasn't broken out of the teens in the national polls

Just wait 'till he goes national. There will certainly be fireworks as the opponents spread all manner of maliciousness and slight regard, and the occasional outrageousness. It should be entertaining.

The Dean situation has traditional politicians stumped, because it isn't between liberals & conservatives. Constituents see it as between "the people" and the massive artificial business/government combine, normally the libertarian or conservative domain.

It confuses consultants because they have convinced their clients and the media to follow polls and pre-processed positions, none of which allow for major distrust of gov't AND social liberalism AND fiscal conservatism. Every time they hit Dean w. a cliched critique of a position, he turns it into a non-sequitor by going back to the underlying conviction.

Dean delivers obvious conviction in both prepared speeches and spontaneously. Bush Junior has the handicap of not being able to handle any news conference that doesn't have diagrams showing which reporter to call upon next, what question will be asked, and the response to use.

I remember Bush Sr. telling the press about Junior's decision to run, when he didn't have any position on national issues yet. "Oh", he said, "we have consultants for that".
