Only about a dozen members of Congress had actually read the text of the bill -- and that is because they wrote it and here we have AARP already endorsing it before it was written. These commercials their airing were made months ago -- and they are using up $7+ million to promote it out of the AARP dues. As I type -- there are still members of the US Congress (probably the vast majority) who have yet had a chance to read the language. Some may not have read a single word as yet. How can AARP call themselves advocates -- already having endorsed a bill that had not yet be fully negotiated in committee and with only two DEMS sitting in as conferees on the final script -- with 10 PUBS putting forth the proposal? Its downright crazy. AARP knows full well, like far too many politicians these days, that nobody has time to pay attention or recognize the chronology of events etc... The devil is in the details (like all things political) and the average American is working too many hours to pay too many bills to pay attention to what the leaders of this country are doing. -JH
