jack, Back during the 2000 election campaign I predicted on this thread that Bush would squander the federal budget surpluses and return us to deficits ASAP. I said that he would do it because debt is a form of enslavement and a means of wealth transfer from the middle class, who pay the taxes, to the treasury bond holding fat cats who always find ways around paying their fair share. I can recall the vitriolic replies I got from Bush fans. Oh, no, they shrieked, Bush would never deliberately create deficits. Oh, no, they wailed, the purpose of the deficits isn't wealth transfer. Though they never could quite come up with a rational argument about what the deficits and the debt are useful for. 17 cents of every dollar is a huge drag on the economic potential of the nation. It is a huge drain on the nation's wealth, concentrating into the hands of a few rapacious, despicable and evil elitists who couldn't care less about the body politic and use the U.S. Treasury as a private piggy bank. Parasites is what they are. Nothing but vampires on the nation's commercial lifeblood.
