Today's announcement underscores BEA and Sun's commitment to provide customers high-quality, affordable solutions, and further advances Sun's low-cost computing strategy by making the benefits of its Solaris OS x86 widely available to WebLogic developers.

"This agreement reflects our long standing, mutual commitment to our customers to extend choice, flexibility, interoperability, 24x7 support, rapid deployment and now, seamless application coexistence across multiple server platforms, said Stuart Wells, vice president, market development, Sun Microsystems. "From the beginning, we've shared the same vision and commitment to standards, reliability and affordability. Today's agreement means Sun and BEA will remain steadfast to deliver the same high performance at very accessible prices."

"Our customers not only demand a choice of operating systems and low cost hardware when developing and deploying their applications on the BEA WebLogic platform, they also want to lower cost and complexity, without sacrificing performance and security," said Scott Dietzen, chief technical officer, BEA Systems. "With this agreement, leveraging industrial-grade UNIX® on 32-bit x86 architecture systems, BEA and Sun plan to continue delivering reliable and secure technology, services and solutions that offer greater choice, flexibility and faster time to value to help our customers stay focused on their company's profitability and competitive landscape."

Availability of BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 on Sun's low cost, high performance Solaris OS x86 platform edition is expected by mid-2004, and includes support for BEA WebLogic Server(TM), BEA WebLogic Portal(TM), BEA WebLogic Integration(TM) and BEA WebLogic Workshop(TM). Furthermore, Sun and BEA are currently working on joint marketing and sales programs to address the growing interest and adoption of the Solaris OS on x86 platform among BEA's customers and partner community.
