Hmm, some ambassadors were the same way. But some honestly cared about the low-level staff and the spouses and the local employees. Obviously, Clark isn't going to say he didn't give a flip about anyone but himself in an interview. You can only trust rhetoric up to the point where the person is responsible for action.

One of the big problems with campaigns, they are just big talkfests.

OTOH, the Capitol Hill crowd exists almost completely to deal in cliches and generalities while someone else has to do the real implementation and be responsible. Maybe that's why we keep electing governors to the Presidency.

But someone should have checked on the Texas governorship a bit more before they popped Bush up another level. Most of the people who ever served there ranged from humorous to complete morons. Can't say I have seen any exceptions yet.
