A few months ago, I had a friend of mine from Taiwan visiting me. I asked him about the political situation between China and Taiwan.

His answer was very easy to understand : Taiwanese people are the same as Chinese people. Eventually it will be 1 nation (like a few decades from now). The only reservation Taiwanese have at the moment, is to see the effects of Hong Kongs absorption into China, and if that does not work out smoothly, to figure out a way to avoid similar mistakes. Like Hong Kong, Taiwan has no desire to be swamped by millions of mainland Chinese when the infrastructure is not yet ready to accept them.
