Had a very interesting conversation yesterday with a fascinating individual who has forgotten more than I will ever know when it comes to the PC. He is extremely adiment in his view in saying what goes around comes around. He tells me ( please note that he is often way out in left field but generally ends up being right)that... Micrsofts new mission statement is to eliminate every home PC from the face of the planet. I went...WHAT!!!... Joe... you've really lost me this time! He went on the explain how years ago the computer world was made up of huge main frames with mega dummy terminals all hooked into it. He feels that Microsofts goal ( Gates legacy as it were) is, to bring us back to this enviorment. He says that in the future, we will all have our $19.95/month terminals e connected into these mega super large,super fast,monster mainframes. These computers will be super high speed.. provide cheap cheap storage space for rent.. (1000 meg for $1.00 ) contain all the software programs one could ever want... and as BILL GATES would love...give you total net access as per Gates Info Inc.. In other words... he will slowly impliment the policies that will allow Microsoft to assume the roll of world police... Gates will allow you to access all the information you want as long as Uncle Bill decided it was information he was going to allow you to have. Sort of like America Online before internet access... you could access anything you wanted as long as America Online decided to include it in America Onlines database.. Joe claims this is what Gates see's as his holy grail claim to fame as it were...his legacy to the world .. he will be the grand webmaster as it were ...he and he alone will decide what information the world will have access to.. After all... knowledege is power.... control what they learn and you control how the world thinks. Is this the altimate power trip or what? Granted this is a little far out but talk about the altimate POWER RUSH for the richest man in the world. Joe's main stay is that the real people in power when it comes to information want to begin streamlining this information. In other words decided what we can and cannot see.. If Gates has his was... if he controls the operating systems ,he has a strangle hold on software development in more ways than one. What better way to control the one thing that could give him altimate power..... content . Scarry stuff... don't trade int that 28800 modem and Dell200 just yet! Joe is one scarry guy... like I say... when he talks .. its in your best intrest to pay attention... guy is no dummy... just crazy.
