Small Sensor Module Enable High Resolution Camera Phones
FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology (Nasdaq: ESST - News) a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital imaging, digital video and digital audio consumer electronics, today announced a new CMOS camera sensor module for camera phones. The D1210 is a complete camera sensor module including a CMOS sensor, lens, flex assembly and connector.
"As a pioneer in megapixel technology, we have leveraged our strengths in digital still camera imaging and transferred those technological advancements into our camera phone products. We believe the D1210 is the industry's smallest 1/3" format 1.1 megapixel CMOS camera sensor module, measuring 9.1 x 9.5 x 7.2 millimeters," said John Gerard, executive director of marketing for ESS Technology. "The D1210 module offers handset designers the next generation of high resolution camera sensors in low z-height packages without compromising low-light performance. By using conventional packaging and assembly techniques, ESS provides low-cost, high-quality modules to meet the dynamic requirements of the fast-growing handset industry."
The D1210 is a complete camera module that consists of a 1.1 megapixel CMOS image sensor and a compact lens assembly. The small size of ESS's leading-edge 4.0 micron CMOS pixel makes it possible to include a high-performance, low profile three-element 1/3" format lens in the sensor module.
The sensor contains proprietary noise reduction circuitry and is fabricated using a proprietary process developed exclusively for ESS's CMOS sensor products. This technology increases the pixel fill-factor enabling improved low-light performance. The module outputs industry standard 10-bit Bayer RGB format data and is controlled over a two-wire serial interface.
