DC Grassroots Summit Report!

The Dean for America Grassroots Summit kicked off in Washington, DC Thursday night. About 250 Dean supporters traveled from neighboring Virginia and Maryland (and as far away as Delaware and Pennsylvania!) to hear campaign manager Joe Trippi reinvigorate grassroots organizers and focus our energy on winning not just our own state primaries, but Iowa and New Hampshire too.

With Diet Pepsi in hand, Trippi told the crowd how the campaign had grown from 432 people in January, to over 500,000 people today! The credit, he said, goes directly to the people who are showing up at these Summits, and folks just like them all over the country. More than any direct action right now, Trippi asked Dean supporters for three things: 1) Pledge to join 2,000,000 other Americans and give $100 to Dean for America, 2) Volunteer to come to Iowa for a week or two in January, and 3) organize, organize, organize in your home state.

By all accounts, the Summit was a huge success! After the three states broke out into small(er) groups to coordinate upcoming activities, we all came back together to hear some inspired words from the likes of New York Congressman (and early Dean supporter) Jarrold Nadler and life-long civil rights advocate and legend Larry Guyot. Adding to the success, DC For Dean (who hosted the Summit) sponsored a food drive for the DC-area community and collected over 600 cans of food, putting more on the tables of those in need this Thanksgiving season.

Dean supporters left the Summit more energized than ever, and ready to hit the last 60 or so days before the primaries with a running start, and deliver the nomination and the White House to Governor Dean!
