Sounds like most here keep taps on their trades on a piece of paper. You should consider using Quicken or something along these lines. Takes just as long to write a trade down than it takes to enter it into Quicken. I especially like the additional benefits; i.e.
- Current average cost (multiple buys or sells same stock)
- Instant cash balance
- Keeps track of splits, dividends etc. and best of all,
- Instantly provides all the info needed at tax time
It's IMO really worth the few dollars these programs cost.
