Bush finds way to rape Alaska

It interests me that more than one of the Regressives on SI are avid outdoors types, or so they say. They never have any comment on Bush's aggressive intents to destroy the environment.

Washington-AP -- The Bush administration appears to have found a way to drill for
oil and gas in the Arctic.

The Interior Department is expected to announce that the administration intends to
open a huge area of Alaska's North Slope for oil and gas development. It includes
some land considered to be environmentally sensitive.

None of the eight-point-eight (m) million acres is in the Alaskan wildlife refuge that
President Bush fought unsuccessfully to open for drilling. The Interior Department
calls the announcement a compromise that will offer large areas for drilling, while
cordoning off some sensitive lands.

Environmentalists say the plan will jeopardize Arctic tundra, lakes and ponds that
provide sanctuary for wildlife and migratory birds.
