Intel seems like they are at the end of the line wrt their current designs. Their new chip is 120W, too hot for much of anything! And it took them 10 years to design the Itanium according to rudedog.

AMD has a cool running chip, well priced. So even if you don't care about AMD64, it is just the better value and product imho. Which means, AMD64 will be adopted irrespective of whether consumers really want 64 bits or not.
