Don,

Re: The Lance/Miniter debate --

It is of note that Miniter was first promoted on the Drudge Report, and is a current favorite of the neo-con set. His promise to correct the record by publishing a new book examining the failures of the Bush 43 administration to prepare for 9/11 is probably a lie. He's clearly ideologically and politically motivated.

Lance, OTOH, seems to me to be a straight shooter. He was very articulate yesterday in a Democracy NOW! interview when discussing the failure of the Kean Commission to perform the examination that the families of 9/11 victims and the nation deserve.

Re: The idea 9/11 was planned by terrorists for over a decade is absurd.

I agree. However, the idea of attacking the WTC as the most obnoxious symbol of American corporate empire has been around for decades. I recall first reading about how to take down the towers in a work by John McPhee written in the late 1970s. The towers were a profoundly hated symbol even then.

Re: <<<They had gotten the missile strike on Bin Laden's camp approved in August 2001. Condoleezza Rice signed off on it September 4, 2001, and the chiefs of staff put it, all that remains was to order a massive missile strike on Bin Laden's operations in Afghanistan was the personal approval of the president. They scheduled a meeting with the president for 3 P.M. September 11.>>>

Since this is mere speculation without any known documentation I'm aware of, I'd say this is a lie that Miniter is trying to foist on his readership. I won't waste money on Miniter, because I came to the conclusion that he is an ideologue and a liar. Anyone who blames Clinton, as he does, for what happened on Bush's watch is deeply suspect in my book.
