In January 1926 Kallas traveled to the United States. There she heard of the death of the Finnish
poet Eino Leino. It was a deep blow to Kallas and also left marks on his writings. However, it
was not until the 1950s, when Kallas published her diaries, her relationship with Eino Leino was
revealed.
