The false assumption is this: the greater the force of modern weaponry is used against nation-states in the "war against terrorism", the less terrorism there will be.

What is now occuring in Turkey and Iraq show the opposite.

The next assertion by the Bush administration, is as in Vietnam, that the solution is still greater force, and eventually will "succeed".

Look carefully for a definition of "success". There isn't one. The only definition of "winning" is the next election, judging by the GOP political ads out today, which attempts to portray anyone who opposes Bush as pro-terror. Answer? More terror if you vote against Bush. To underscore the message will be more terrorism and warnings until next November.

If you want to use a different metric than body count, feel free to find one. But the news reports of body counts and wounded from all sides in the conflict are what turn opinion against the Bush Doctrine and drive new recruits.

The invasion of Iraq was ill-conceived for political purposes and has become a recruiting theme, made further obvious just this week by the multiple alliances Al Queada is now forming. These new groups now coordinate their attacks, and take multiple credit when they happen.

Notice what has happened in Israel over 40 years. The greater the military violence the more terrorism escalates in response. We can expect no difference. We are headed in the same failed direction on a larger scale.
