FWIW, When I lived there I finally came to the conclusion that the Israelis were fine people but the gov't is insane, and out for blood and land. The Arabs I knew were similar, but less capable by two orders of magnitude.

The result was the conviction that they could get along if they wished, but surely won't as long as one side or the other is supported by American military power. As usual, the intervention of the US changes the equation completely to one where the US involvement is the central issue, and overshadows the original millenial dispute.

The answer is this: announce a timetable for withdrawal of Israeli support. Alternatively, announce that both sides will be given an equal $4 Billion in support, and let them solve their own problems.
