LOL! With Itanium, you have to recompile your apps for each generation of the processor! Microsoft will love that! Anything compiled with Itanium will run much slower on Itanium2, for example. Sounds like a winner to me.

Now, perhaps Intel could put all its muscle behind this and make it a winner, but it's too big a pig and requires to much lipstick.

Intel ain't gonna make anything of Itanium. They'll go with something else.
