the outcry over the mtbe protection for manufacturers did not make sense to me given that congress mandated the use of mtbe to replace lead in gasoline. i mean from a commonsense test view if i am a chemical manufacturer and congress passes a law stating that one of my chemicals should be used in something, why am i held responsible if it is found later that users are not disposing of the product properly. isn't the logic here the same as the gun manufacturers being held responsible if someone shots another person with a gun they manufactured? i believe the supreme court has ruled on the gun question already, and that did not include a congressional mandate to make the guns.
