What was found out from the olden days is to buy the oil and leave the countries alone. That means that we have supported any Government that ran an oil country as long as they kept it stable. And we treated them like filling stations. We would still be doing that if it wasn't for 911.

Now we realize that leaving these Dictatorships and Theocracies in charge led to disaster. Our goal is to try to make it possible for these countries to install better Governments in hopes that a better standard of living for the people will quell some of the Terror. It's a tall order to do, but we really have no other choice. Any other solution is a "Clinton" one, where we just kick the can down the road for a few years, and we know things will get worse.
