OT / During the 1973 gas crisis, my father bought a year and a half old Lincoln Continetal 4 door for about $1200.

He drove it for about 3 years then sold it for about $2000+

These days, I would look for an early Turbo Bentley, an 850i or 750 BMW (12 cylinder) of one of the 600 series Mercedes Benzes, also 12 cyclinder. Several of the car magazines have had articles on 'future classics' which comment on these.

I would be looking for even more appreciation.

Big SUVs seem to be all over the market here in Silicon Valley, way too many of them.

The US models that I think might appreciate are the Camaro Z-28 , Pontiac Trans Am and Firehawk. Production ends soon, prices will drop with and many of these will either be wrecked, turned into race vehicles, or be owned by very young men who cannot afford to maintain them...

With income from oil & gas trusts, it would be easier to pay the high gasoline bills for awhile...

That pre-smog Lincoln could get 12-14 mpg at legal speeds.
