today must not be wasted

I'm glad you discovered a healthier coping mechanism. <g>

The Party's Over I've read. I also know of the dieoff.org website, and listened in on some hardcore thinkers via a mailing list.

Understanding the nature of the potential problem provides a platform for seeking solutions. The net energy approach put forth by researchers requires exploring bias and motivation. It also ignores potential technology advances.

recognition of a scientific prediction or is it an “auto-toxic meme”?

It is autotoxic only if the idea damages/destroys the host. I'm not holding you responsible for my coping mechanisms. I was just concerned about you, and what that view of the future might be doing to you.

But there is also a bit of responsibility we can both take, in considering how what we are pondering may impact others.

For example, I haven't told my neice's and nephews about a potential future some would say appears to be bleak. They haven't developed the critical thinking skills to evaluate the info and develop their own coping mechanisms. I did mention to my brother, who is adult sized, that I'm considering how I might structure my life to cope with a tripling in the price of petrol, and all that entails.

This contingent planning does not preclude a future with unimaginable propserity just around the corner, presuming we don't self distruct first.

recognizing one will eventually die

A measure of peace and freedom, I found in that. But then, the question becomes one's legacy. While I may no longer exist in human form, what I've become while I'm here, and perhaps, some of my ideas, may live on.
