CagEnt Leapfrogs Competition in Desktop MPEG-2 Encoding Business Wire - August 12, 1997 07:00
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1997--Putting high-end, studio-quality, and affordable MPEG-2 encoding right on the desktop, CagEnt Technologies Inc. of Santa Clara unveils two new products: the MPEGXpress 2000 and the MPEGXpress 2000-EX. Coming on the heels of their groundbreaking MPEGXpress 1250 system, the MPEGXpress 2000 series establishes CagEnt as a leader in the growing market for desktop MPEG encoding systems. Already a key provider to multimedia professionals of leading-edge MPEG systems for digital audio and video storage and transmission, CagEnt is committed to remain ahead of the competition. "Since we started shipping the MPEGXpress 2000, we have received very positive feedback from our customers for the encoding quality, stability, and ease of use of the products," said Toby Farrand, president and chief executive officer of CagEnt Technologies. "Now with the MPEGXpress 2000-EX, our customers will benefit from the first of a long roadmap of unique new features and functionality that we will be incorporating into the product line over the next year." In the short period of time it has been available, CagEnt has already shipped dozens of MPEGXpress 2000 systems to customers. MPEGXpress users can encode and multiplex video and audio in real time right on their PC or Macintosh, producing MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 output. Both the MPEGXpress 2000 and the 2000-EX include features previously unavailable in desktop systems. Now users have the ability to encode or decode MPEG-2 streams at data rates up to 40,000,000 bits per second with full broadcast resolution. Users can select either Main Profile at Main level (MP@ML), the industry standard for MPEG-2 video, or the 4:2:2 Profile, used for high-end broadcast and studio editing applications. Targeting broadcast applications, the 2000-EX model adds the ability to encode 32 extra lines of vertical blanking at data rates up to 50,000,000 bits per second. Easy to install, the system consists only of two PCI cards, a software application, and a small stand-alone digitizer unit. Once installed, MPEGXpress provides a simple point-and-click interface to control the audio/video source and encoding/decoding process with frame-accurate VTR control. MPEGXpress supports all standard analog and digital video and audio input signals. With the exploding use of audio and video content in applications like DVD and CD-ROMS, as well as for web design and broadcast video transmission, multimedia professionals need only to turn to CagEnt Technologies and their new MPEGXpress for MPEG-2 studio-quality desktop solutions at an affordable price. Just one of the outstanding products available from CagEnt, the MPEGXpress encoding system completes CagEnt's goal of providing expertise in digital audio, video, and graphics technologies. With their product line already consisting of DVD chipsets, interactive entertainment systems, and graphics technology for PCs and network computers, the MPEGXpress products extend CagEnt's focus beyond delivering solutions for consumers and offers solutions for the authoring community.
