Alydaar Software Corp. continues to promise huge growth in Charlotte, including 100,000 square feet of expansion locally and 250 more hires within the next year. Alydaar Chief Executive Robert Gruder says the company is scouting Charlotte for more office space. "Nothings been ironed out," Gruder says. "Right now, we're looking at everything from vacant KMart buildings to top quality office space.
A year ago people were asking the same questions as you: how can a small obscure company like ALYD ever hope to land the big fish with the EDSs, IBMs, and Viasofts of the world as competitors? The key was setting up the infrastructure for rapid growth. Do you really think that ALYD hasn't got a detailed business plan for further rapid expansion?
As for the issue of bodies, let's not forget, as I've said over and over, that SmartCode is an application software product. In other words, while it is extremely helpful to have a CS background, you don't have to be a six-figure, experienced programmer to use it. All you really need are intelligent people. Let's hope there's no shortage of them around :-).
As for testing, that's why Compuware is such a good strategic fit. But, remember, whether you wait a week or a month for code to be tested, you don't sit around twiddling your thumbs-- you crank out some more code!
The hardest part was ramping up from nothing to Fortune 500 slayer. We should all be so lucky if they are "forced" to buy out an abandoned KMart!
