I was watching some "expert" on PBS "One on One" here in Hawaii complain about the overseas movement of hi-tech jobs. He said they were losing their 150K jobs and having to settle for 70K jobs. Sounds like they were overpaid in the first place.

I went with P&G out of college and worked the LA Grocery market for years. Watched the Unions drive the wages and bennies up beyond what the job skills were worth. Now the bill is due. This happens in every industry. When you are part of it, it's a tragedy, when you watch it, it's "Creative Capitalism."

Teach your kids to not expect to stay with any employer for long, and to be willing to move. Let the rest of the world learn English. They are rapidly doing so.

I am reading the best one-volume history of the Civil War ever written, Battle Cry of Freedom. The author spends a lot of time on the reason we became so wealthy so quickly between 1800 and 1850. The secret was education. We were much more literate than the Europeans. One of the reasons for the overseas movement of jobs today is the modern failure of education. We do a great job for Genius's and Special Ed. But we are failing our kids in the middle.
