Hi rudedog,
Intel's Otellini claimed recently that Intel will ship 100,000 Itanium 2 chips this year.... saying this is ALL READY comparable to any other 64 bit technology.. Many people consider this claim rather dubious. I think perhaps 15,000 could be accounted for in a number of supercomputer applications. Notice he said shipped (not sold). My guess is that it is just more Intel spinola. (I don't believe a word they say any more) I think it includes all the replacements for the original Itanium 2 faulty chips as well as all the freebie systems Intel has given away to seed development. I doubt more than 40,000 were actually sold for profit. How extensive do you think the freebie program is (I recall you commented on it previously) and what would be your guess as to the total number of Itanium 2 chips sold for profit thus far this year?
