You really want to be safe?
The offer of your manufacturer can be a trick: once he can prove that you've been with a screwdriver in their PC, warranty is void.
Better send the whole PC back for servicing.
There is no warranty on your data, but most manufacturers would plainly perform the driveimage themselves to avoid any discussion.
