Is the death sentence in a homicide appropriate ?

I personally am of mixed opinions, and would like to hear both POVs. My thought process started, when I heard that John Mohammed - one of the DC snipers - has been sentenced to death by the Jury.

Heres how I look at it, if I was part of the Jury :

- Did the man kill one or more people - yes.
- Is he likely to kill if he is acquitted - yes
- If he is given a life sentence with no parole, is he likely to kill - no (unless theres an inmates war in the prison).
- Is it worth the taxpayers money and efforts to keep him alive on a life sentence - dunno the answer
- Is it worth it to kill him now, and avoid the taxpayer costs - dunno the answer

I dont often dwell in theology, but one aspect of the questions would be : we did not give him birth, what right do we have to take his life - again I dunno the answer.
