About 100k joint income
daycare for two will be $1600/month
college and professional school loans roughly $80,000 around $800 per month
mortgage roughly 2000/month includes RE taxes
State, local and fed Taxes & Fica roughly total about $1200 per month Add the two modest cars and insurance add about $700/month in NJ

Offerring a contrasting situation, from my young days in India :
- Income would not be fair to compare - because of exchange rates etc. suffice to say we were called "middle income"
- daycare ? - what's that mean ? Mom or some relative looks after the kids.
- college fees - I earned about 40% of it doing odd jobs. My parents could barely afford the remaining 60%. Even then, they guaranteed my fees, provided food/accomodation etc, till I started working after graduation.
- didn't have a concept of mortgage then - we were renting a 2 bedroom apartment, where me, my parents, and 5 sisters lived.
- taxes - yeah every govt wants to take the most - not different there
- "2 modest cars" - we had no car till I started working - 1st year I bought a motorcycle to commute and get groceries etc, 2 years later got a beat up old car.
