For my part, I have 2 fully functional systems (two different installs) and all data and settings synchronized at least every week. (Four, as they both are at least double-boot).
OSes on other partitions, with one primary partition usused.
Then burning CD's every now and then.
Never more than a couple of hours away from working. (Need a couple of hours to asses that there is a problem).
